Full-Time High School and Middle School, Plus Single Courses, and Tutoring
Tilden Preparatory School is a WASC-accredited college preparatory school for grades 6-12 that teaches UC-approved courses one-to-one and in small groups. This allows us to individualize the pace and teaching method to address a wide range of educational, social and emotional needs. From highly gifted students who find a regular classroom setting too limiting to students with learning, attention or other challenges who need a personalized approach to shine academically and regain confidence, we work with students to maximize their success in all areas of their lives.
With Tilden's unique model, students can enroll at any time, even mid-semester. Tilden has 156 UC-approved courses, including 27 weighted Honors and 33 AP courses. Students can enroll full time, take courses for credit while enrolled at another high school, or have tutoring for courses they are taking elsewhere. We also offer our students a large range of social opportunities.

Students We Serve
Tilden Prep serves a wide range of students with a large variety of reasons for choosing our one-to-one mastery learning approach over a traditional classroom setting.
Some students may have fallen behind academically and are worried about their standing, creating feelings of stress and pressure to perform. Other students feel overwhelmed by the social demands of a larger school or classroom setting. Some students are bored in school and need a more challenging, individualized curriculum, or need the combination of more challenge in areas where they excel, combined with more support in areas where they struggle. Some students need a customized schedule to accommodate other pursuits. And some need a nurturing environment where stress and anxiety are reduced and support is provided academically and/or socially/emotionally. Tilden's one-to-one model, combined with highly experienced administrative staff and teachers who connect well with teens and love the subjects they teach, allows each student to gain the skills, confidence and perseverance they need to succeed.
Every Student has a Turnaround Story
At Tilden we’ve witnessed what we call “The Turnaround Moment” countless times. Students who were not a fit in traditional schools finally feel seen, heard, understood, and inspired to attain their maximum potential. In that transformative moment, they feel the joy and energy that fuels the desire to learn. We take pride in creating a collaborative environment: our highly qualified administrative team, and our carefully chosen teaching staff work closely with students and parents to ensure that each student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our Results
For most of our students, an education at Tilden Prep is a vital stepping stone to success in higher education. Once students have reclaimed their confidence and love of learning, the opportunities for college become attainable. Over 90% of Tilden students go on to attend college, and Tilden Prep transcripts have been accepted by all private colleges and public universities, from the UC and CSU campuses to Harvard, Yale, Stanford and more. Most importantly, when we follow up with our graduates after the first semester in college, the vast majority are still attaining 80% or higher in their classes! Please see our full college acceptance list below.
We Build on Strength
Based on thousands of students' successes, we’ve learned to tap into each student’s innate strengths and interests to engage them and help them succeed in more challenging areas. Our customized, one-to-one teaching method maximizes students‘ achievement and builds confidence, pride, and a feeling of well-being that extends beyond school into the rest of their lives.

We are always available for a free consultation to see if Tilden Prep is the best school for your family.
Academic Excellence for All
Tilden provides more teacher/student sessions per course than comparable programs at a lower hourly cost. The added time allows students to master and retain knowledge and study skills at a deep level. Local schools often refer their students to Tilden for courses because they know that students get an exceptional education at Tilden. We encourage you to call us for more information and then compare Tilden to other one-to-one programs.
“I love working with Tilden students because they range from A - Z in terms of types and backgrounds. They all experience success academically, and that turns them into confident and happy individuals.”Jan Russell, College Counselor

Life at Tilden
Tilden Parent“My son is thriving at Tilden Preparatory School, which should be on your short list. Some kids simply need one-on-one instruction to learn, and Tilden has the process to successfully do this. Unlike some of the ASD-specific schools, Tilden has the academic curriculum both for the students who are struggling or are looking for something far more challenging than public schools.”
